Sound Crush #6 | Melody Gardot

Happy Jeudi !

Bientôt le week-end; et pour vous accompagner en douceur vers ce long week-end de Pâques, je voudrais vous introduire à une artiste à la voix envoutante: C’est l’heure du Sound Crush #6 !

L’artiste que je présente aujourd’hui n’a absolument rien d’une newbie et est même plutôt bien connue. Cependant, je pense qu’elle mérite qu’on parle encore d’elle tant son talent est grand.

Melody Gardot, est une grande chanteuse de modern jazz. Elle s'est fait connaitre du grand public avec son deuxième album, My One and Only Thrill, qui suivait un non moins beau premier album, Worrisome Heart. 

Cette chanteuse/auteur-compositeur américaine, d’origine polonaise, a commencé à écrire ses premières chansons sur son lit d’hôpital où elle a passé un an, suite à un grave accident de vélo qui lui fera développer une hypersensibilité de la vue, d’où le fait qu’elle soit constamment avec des lunettes feutrées dans toutes ses performances.

A la suite de cet évènement, elle se remettra grâce à la musicothérapie et commence à commercialiser ses premières compositions en 2005, puis un premier album et puis le succès avec My One and Only Thril, avec le morceau « Who Will Confort Me »qui devient un tube planétaire en 2009, de même que "Lover Undercover", une autre de mes coups de coeur du même album.

 

Sort ensuite un troisième album, The Absence qui embrasse d’autres univers musical que celui du jazz classique des deux premiers albums, en se rapprochant de genre comme la Bossa Nova ou le Jazz Latin. L’album fut enregistré en Amérique Latine et on y ressent clairement les influences latines de percussions et de rythmes endiablés qui prennent le pas, notamment sur les morceaux comme « Mira » ou « Amalia ». Une artiste à écouter de toute urgence.

It is time for Sound Crush #6.

The artist whom I present today has absolutely nothing of a newbie and is known even well enough. But I think that she deserves that we still speak about her to people who would not be into Jazz music. 
Melody Gardot, is a tremendous jazz singer. Acknowledged by the general public since her second album, My One and Only Thrill, a true masterpiece; album that has followed her very promising first album: Worrisome Heart.

This American singer/composer/songwriter, with Polish origins, began to write her first songs on a hospital bed where she spent one year, further to a serious bike accident which made her very sensitive to light as a post-trauma symptoms of her accident, which is why from the fact that it she constantly wears sunglasses in all her performances.  Following this event, she has recovered thanks to music therapy and released her first compositions in 2005, then a first album and then came the success with My One and Only Thrill, with the beautiful and soulful “Who Will Comfort Me”, which became a global hit in 2009. 

The Absence, her third album embraces other musical universes than classic jazz, by getting closer to genres, such as Bossa nova or Latin Jazz. The album was recorded in Latin America and we can easily feel, when listening to it, the Latin influences of percussions and afro rhythms which override, in particular on songs like “Amalia” or “Mira”.
